I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to
- read the text about school education system
- know and use vocabulary related to school education system: certificate, curriculum, compulsory
2. Skills: integrated, mainly reading
3. Attitude: Active to join activities and tasks in class.
4. Orientation of ability development
- General competence: self-taught, giving solutions, brainstorming, managing, communicative, and co-operative.
- Special competence:
+ Vocabulary comprehension: find synonym words, guessing meaning from contexts .
+ Passage comprehension: answering the questions, scanning for specific information, summarizing main idea
Period 16 Date of preparation: 30/9/2021 Week: 6 UNIT 4: SCHOOL EDUCATION SYSTEM Lesson: READING I. OBJECTIVES: 1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to - read the text about school education system - know and use vocabulary related to school education system: certificate, curriculum, compulsory 2. TEACHING AIDS: - Textbook, pictures, handouts, sub-boards III. PROCEDURE 1. Stabilization: (3ms) 2. New lesson: Teacher and Students’activities Content 1. Warm up: (Activity 1) (5 mins) UNDERSTANDING (to get Ss involved to the lesson) - T ask ss to look at the picture on p. 44 and then ask them some questions. - Ss discuss in pairs. - T leads to the new lesson. What is the picture about? Where is it? Can you tell us something about schools in Vietnam? 2. Presentation: RECOGNITION (to get Ss awared of some facts about schools in Vietnam) a. Activity 2: (5 mins) - T requires the students to work in pairs to study some facts provided and then decide whether the statements about schools in Vietnam are True or False. - T asks the students to compare their answers with a friend. - T calls on some students to read their answers and explain their choices. - Ss give out opinions about the facts - T checks the answers with the whole class. b. Activity 3: (6 mins) Pre-teach vocabulary RECOGNITION (to provide Ss with some vocabulary related to the topic Love and marriage ) - T writes down words on board and explain word by word - Students take notes and get the meanings - T has the ss listen and repeat - Ss listen and repeat in chorus * Suggested Answers: 1- Children start Grade 1 when they are 6 years old. T 2- Schooling is compulsory from the age of 6 to 16. F 3- The schooling year generally begins in September and ends in late May. T 4- The students do not have any examinations when they finish secondary school. F 5- A school year consists of two terms. Practice: a. Activity 4: (7 mins) Task 1 RECOGNITION (to get Ss check and understand deeply the meaning of some words) - T has the students read the passage quickly and silently to find main ideas and asks them to find the words and phrases in the passage that have the meanings provided. - Ss work in pairs. - T goes round the class and provide help if necessary. - T calls on some students to read their answers and explain their choices. - T checks the answers with the whole class and give comments. c. Activity 5: (8mins) Task 2_Answer questions LOW APPLICATION (to help ss practice reading for specific information and question answering skills) - T asks the students to work in pairs to read the passage again and answer the questions provided. - T requires the students to skim the questions to understand them and underline the key words, then locate the information in the text and find the answers. - T goes round for help. - T has the students compare their answers with other pairs. - T calls the ss to stand up to answer , then gives feedbacks. (T may use game here to feedback) Expected Answers: 1. Schools in which all children can attend without paying tuition fees: State schools: trường quốc lập 2. Freer practice_ Activity 6 (8 mins) HIGH APPLICATION (to help Ss practice speaking skill of talking about school education system in England and about their study at school.) - T guides the ss to do the discussion * Activity for average students Ask Ss to work in pairs to talk about education in England. * Activity for good students - T asks the good students to work in pairs to tell their friends one of the most difficult school subjects they are studying and what they would like their friends and teachers to do to help them - Ss discuss in pairs. - Ss report their discussion to the class. - T goes around to help Ss if they have any - T makes comments. 3. Consolidation and Homework: (3 mins) - T asks Ss to state the main points of the lesson. - Ss prepare for the next lesson. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to - understand how to ask for and give out opinions about the study at school . - improve listening skills about the topic_the study at school 2. Skills: integrated, mainlyspeaking 3. Attitude: Ss should be more confident in communication 4. Orientation of ability development - General competence: self-taught, giving solutions, brainstorming, managing, communicative, and co-operative. - Special competence: listening skills of specific information and comprehention II. TEACHING AIDS: - Textbook, pictures, handouts, sub-boards III. PROCEDURE 1. Stabilization: (3ms) 2. New lesson: Teacher and Students’activities Content 1. Warm up _ Activity 1 (5 mins) RECOGNITION (to get Ss involved to the lesson) - T asks 2 ss to go to the board, writing out the subjects they learn at school quickly. T gives them 2 minutes. Who finishes first with more correct answers will be the winner. - Ss go to the board and write out the subjects - T corrects and gives comments. - T leads to the new lesson: “These are some subjects that you learn at school. Today we are going to listen to two students talking about their study at school.” Suggested answer : Maths Physics Chemistry English Civic education. .. 2. Presentation: a. Activity 2 : (7 mins) Questions and Answers UNDERSTANDING (to make Ss have thoughts about what they are going to listen) - T asks the students to work in pairs to ask and answer the 2 questions - Ss work in pairs to ask and answer the questions - T calls on some students to practice in front of the class. - Ss do as requested. - T gives feedback and comments. b. Activity 3 : (6 mins) Pre-teach vocabulary RECOGNITION (to provide Ss with some vocabulary related to the topic) - T elicits from the students the meaning of some new words. - Ss give out the meaning of new words. - T instructs the students to read these words or play the tape and then ask Ss to repeat after the tape in chorus and individually. - Ss pay attention & listen and repeat 1. What school subjects are you good at? 2. Which ones do you enjoy most / least in your class? Task 1_ Activity 4 (7 mins) UNDERSTANDING (to get Ss to listen for specific information and put ticks to suitable iinformation) - T gets ss to read carefully five sentences before listening the tape to do the task. - T plays the tape twice (T can play the tape one more time if students have difficulty.) - Ss work individually, then compare their answers with other students. - T calls on some ss to give their answers, corrects and gives feedback. b. Task 2_ Activity 5 (6 mins) Listen and answer the questions LOW APPLICATION (to get Ss to listen for comprehention of the whole listening text ) - T has ss to read the five questions and identify key words. 1. When did Gavin think he listed to the teacher well? 2. How did Gavin find the exams? 3. Why couldn’t Gavin pass the exams easily? 4. Why did Gavin say he didn’t think his school days were the best time of his life? T plays the tape once for the students to listen to the tape do the task. - Ss listen and do the task -T asks the students to compare their answers with a partner. - Ss compare their answers with a partner. - T checks and give feedback. I didn’t do well in the last exam period. I was content with my math, physics and chemistry results but my English result wasn’t very good. I made too many mistakes so I barely passed it. I think I have to spend more time studying English to get higher grade in the coming exam. 3. OBJECTIVES: 1. Knowledge: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: + Identify the stress in three-syllabe words and practice reading these words + Revise the form and use of the passive voice; use the passive voice appropriately. 2. Skills: - Speaking, writing, reading, listening 3. Attitude: Actively take part in activities and tasks in class 4. Orientation of ability development - General competence: self- learning, brainstorming, communicating and co-operating. - Special competence: + identifying the stress of words + supplying the correct passive verb forms II. Warm up_Activity 1 (3 mins) RECOGNITION (to get Ss involved to the lesson) - T shows some pictures and asks sts to say what they are about in English. - T: How may syllables are there in these words? - T: How can we stress in three- syllable words? - T leads to the lesson. 2. Presentation_Activity 2 (4 mins) RECOGNITION Tick (ü) the correct column according to the stress pattern of the words (to get Ss identify the stress of words and pronounce them) - Ss do the activity in pairs in 1 munite - T: What are some rules to pronounce these words? - Ss draw out some rules to make stress in three syllable words. - T helps ss with some rules to make stress in three syllable words - T has the ss practice reading words in chorus and in individually 3. Practice_ Activity 3 (3 mins) RECOGNITION Practice reading aloud the sentences: (to get Ss identify the stress and practice readingthem in the sentences correctly) - T has the ss paractise reading sentences by stressing in in three syllable words - Ss make stress in pairs - Ss practise reading - T feedbacks and gets ss to elicit the notes. Presentation_ Activity 5 RECOGNITION & UNDERSATND (5 mins) (To get Ss to review the form and use of the passive voice) - T uses the example above to elicit the form and use of the passive voice. - T feedbacks - Ss work in groups of four to do the handouts - T collects the handouts and gives comments 3. Practice (15 mins) * Activity 6: UNDERSTAND (to gets ss provide the correct verb form ) - T introduces the task: Fill each blank with the passive form of the verb in brackets. - T guide Ss to do - Ss do as directed - T feedbacks * Activity 7: Change these sentences into passive voice LOW APPLICATION ( to get Ss change the sentences into the passive form ) - T gives handouts - Ss work in groups - T collects 3 groups to correct - T gives feedback. 4. Freer practice: speaking activity HIGH APPLICATION (8 mins) (to get Ss to speak by using passive sentences ) - T divides Ss into groups of 4 and let them watch a videoabout certain actions. - T asks some groups to present in front of the class. - T asks for peers’ correction. - Ss do as directed. - T feedbacks.
