- Guess meaning in context, scanning for specific information and passage comprehension (pair/group work)

- students will be able to know clearly school education systems not only in Viet Nam but also in England.

 - Teacher: Handouts, textbook, lesson plan, short videos, pictures. PowerPoint lesson, games, kahoot, google form, quizzez
 - Students: Textbook, notebook, cell phone.

Activity 1 Facts about schools
a/ Aim: students can guest about the school education system in Vietnam.
b/ Content 
Read the facts below and decide whether the statements about schools in Vietnam are true (T) or false (F). Then compare your results with your partners’. (p.44)
Facts about schools
Children start Grade 1 when they are 6 years old.
School is compulsory from the age of 6 to 16.
The school year generally begins in September and ends in late May.
The students do not have any examinations when they finish secondary school.
A school year consists of two terms.

Activity 2: Scanning the passage 
a/ Aim: help students know some new words and phrases related to the topic.
b/ Content: 
Task 1. Find words or phrases in the reading passage which have the following meanings. (p.46)
School in which all children can attend without paying tuition fees state school.
A stage of study for children and aged from 5 to 10 primary education.
A stage of study for children and aged from 11 to 16 secondary education.

Activity 3: Answer the following questions.
a/ Aim: to help ss have skills to read the passage and answer the questions.
b/ Content: 
Task 2. Answer the questions. (p.46)
1. When do children in England start their compulsory education at school?
2. How many terms are there in a school year in England?
3. What are the two school systems in England?
4. Do children have to pay fees if they go to ‘independent’ or ‘public’ schools?
5. How many core subjects are there in the national curriculum?
6. When can students take the GCSE examination?
c/ Products: Ss work in groups.

d/ Procedures:
- T shows the questions through zoom by using PowerPoint or iBook program, and puts Ss in groups of three or four; 
- asks them to read the questions first to make sure they understand what information they need in order to answer the questions. It may help if Ss can understand the key words in the questions.
- Asks Ss to read the text again, and locate the part of the text where they can get the answer to each of the questions before they discuss the answers.
- Checks Ss’ answer by inviting a representative from each group to give the answer to one of the questions. If the Ss’ answer is incorrect, don’t give the right one at once, but try to elicit it from other Ss.
Activity 5: Discussion
a/ Aim: ss can talk about the most difficult school subjects which they are studying.
b/ Content: Work in groups. Tell the others one of the most difficult school subjects you are studying and what you would like your friends and your teacher to do to help you learn that subject more effectively.
c/ Product: Model
There are many subjects which I have been studying, but I think English is the most difficult school subject because of some reasons. First, I find pronunciation in English is not easy for me to study. Next, there are many complex structures that I do not understand at all. Finally, I do not have chance to practice speaking English with native speakers. I hope that the teacher will give me some good ways to study English better in the future.
d/ Procedures:
- T shows the task through zoom by using PowerPoint or iBook program, and then T asks Ss to work in groups to tell the others one of the most difficult school subjects they are studying. 
- Ss work in groups. 
- Ss present their opinion in front of the class.
- Checks Ss’ answers and corrects mistakes if necessary

3. Attitudes: 
By the end of the lesson students will be able to know more about someone’s school life in the past.

3. Why couldn’t Gavin pass the exams easily?
