StatusHowever, scientists say the Earth’s coral reefs as we know them could disappear before the next century owing to humans’ perpetual damage to underwater environment.According to recent survey, over 50 percent of the world's coral reefs have died in the last 30 years and up to 90 percent may die within the next century—very few pristine coral reefs still exist.CORAL REEFS NEED OUR HELPCorals have existed for more than 400 million years; yet stresses and changes from human activities are happening faster than their ability to adapt. SolutionsThere are a plenty of ways our students can do so as to contritube to preserving coral reefs such as:Recycle and dispose of trash properly.No trashing near the seashore and afar at sea and underwater.Volunteer in local beach or reef cleanupspractise safe and responsible diving and snorkelling, avoid damaging the beauty of coral reefs. Never touching or harassing wildlife in reef areasUse organic fertilizers to avoid polluting the ocean.
